Hot Rods in Paradise

We have a thing for hot rods, and historic drag strips are a huge part of the hot rodding community. Drag strips played a big part in promoting the hobby back in the day, and the ones that are still around do a great job of keeping the vintage spirit alive. We thoroughly enjoy visiting Paradise Drag Strip, especially when they’re having a nostalgia drag meet.

Well, that’s one way to haul a hot rod body!

Our good buddy and longtime hot rodder, B.B. Brown puts on the event in combination with the Paradise Drag Strip crew, and they do it at least twice a year…sometimes more! Back in October, we attended the Fall Paradise Show and Go event, and had a great time.

If you look up hot rod in the dictionary, this car will be there. Magnesium wheels, piecrust slicks, and a wicked small block!

The weather was perfect, and there was a huge turnout of show cars, racecars and swap meet vendors. You wouldn’t believe the crowd of spectators that lined the fences to watch the drag racing action, and it was certainly worth watching. Vintage drag cars and modern street machines made their way down the historic eighth mile drag strip in exciting fashion. Paying tribute to the man that created and maintained Paradise Drag Strip, Mr. Otto Timms, who passed away earlier in 2011.

In one of the wildest moments of the day, this 427 SOHC powered Mercury Comet literally jumped off the ground when its owner dumped the clutch.
